Why You Should Join The Independent Workers Union

  1. Personal protection, support and advice

Instead of having to look to reddit or citizens information, your membership of a trade union enables you to contact a union representative who can give you experience and fact based advice on your situation. You don’t need to take crap from your employer, join us, learn your rights, defend them.

  1. Solidarity

In Ireland, the vast majority of workers in the private sector are always going through struggles for better pay and conditions.  Sitting in a Zoom call or a meeting where people share experiences that are similar validates the frustration you might have about your employer.

  1. Independent

We are truly ‘independent’ in the strictest sense of the word. We are not going to make a bad deal for our members and we are not a revolving door for failed politicians to make use of when they can’t get elected.

  1. Fighting Union

Our union is dedicated to standing up for workers. Whenever an employer considers cutting hours, changing terms and conditions, or dismissing someone, we want them to think twice—because they know the IWU will be ready to take action.

  1. Member-Led

Our campaigns cannot go anywhere unless they are member led.  Our union cannot grow unless our members are equipped with the tools and skills to defend themselves and their co-workers.

  1. International

We are international. We represent workers from every continent and a variety of different countries. We have interpreters for almost every language. We know that if workers can stand together, they can WIN!

  1. Cross-Industry

Our members work in all kinds of jobs—cleaners, call center staff, security officers, hospital porters, auditors, hotel workers, and many more! No employer is too big or too small for us to stand by our members and support them.

  1. Class Orientated

We take pride in carrying forward the legacy of Larkin and the words of James Connolly. We’re a class-focused union, driven by the belief that workers in this country deserve a much fairer share than they’re currently receiving. It’s us, the working class, against them—the owner-employer-landlord class.
